our goals
The primary goal of this project is to advocate for real play & JOY in our everyday lives.
long-term, we hope to create a sustainable, scalable, and accessible live concert experience, collaborating with local visual and performing artists under our GB brand identity.
The overwhelmingly positive response from our local Queens community, our audiences, and producing partners at Culture Lab LIC and NYU made it clear that there is a strong desire for more joy-centric community-based projects like this. People came curious and READY to tap into their inner child — that speaks volumes. Our audiences left disappointed that there were only two shows, and we would love the opportunity to expand future iterations of the show’s run and build on our present momentum.
how we got here
For the initial iteration of TRUTH & MAGIC, we relied heavily on the generosity of over 60 artistic collaborators who donated their time, crowdfunding, free materials from Materials for the Arts and Remix Market NYC, and our own savings.
We also applied to be and were accepted as the “client” for a graduate-school class in NYU’s Interactive Telecommunications Program whose students provided design and fabrication services. We plugged away tirelessly for six months to build the foundation for the show’s success — connecting with potential producers, creatives, performers, makers, and community organizers and ensuring that our vision was accessible and applicable to a wide demographic.
For this experience, we prided ourselves on welcoming audiences of any age, background, or ability to join us.
